Biography
Denis Lawson is a Scottish actor who portrayed rebellion pilot Wedge Antilles in all three films of the Star Wars original trilogy. Coincidentally, he is the maternal uncle of Ewan McGregor, who portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi throughout the prequel trilogy. Outside Star Wars , the actor is famous for starring in the 1983 Scottish film Local Hero and the 2005 BBC television serial Bleak House. In 2013 he starred alongside Caity Lotz in The Machine.
He reprised the role of Wedge, in voice-over form, in the Nintendo GameCube game Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. Lawson's voice also provided the narration for the audio book of Heir to the Empire and Dark Force Rising in both novels. Lawson turned down George Lucas's proposal to make a cameo as Captain Raymus Antilles in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
Lawson was approached to return as Wedge Antilles for Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, but declined due to a scheduling conflict. He finally returned to the role in 2019's Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.
Lawson later voiced Wedge Antilles in the video game Star Wars: Squadrons and the animation series Star Wars: Visions.
