Winnipeg Comiccon’s inaugural edition an astounding success with over 14,000 visitors!

(Winnipeg, Manitoba – October 31, 2021) This past weekend, the Winnipeg Comiccon transformed the RBC Convention Centre into a wonderland of superheroes, video game characters and astounding creatures from the worlds of science fiction and fantasy, where over 14,000 fans of all ages gathered to find collectibles, meet celebrities, and enjoy pure fun.

 

2021 Programming Highlights

Fans were delighted to meet their favourite stars Billy Boyd (The Lord of The Rings), Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead, The Boys), Billy West (voice actor: Futurama, Ren & Stimpy), and John de Lancie (Star Trek).

Artist Alley was brewing with comic book creators such as Mike Rooth, Hugh Rookwood, Lovern Kindzierski, GMB Chomichuk and Casey Parsons, as well as countless artisans and creators from all over the province. More than 135 diverse retailers in the business deployed a shopping paradise where collectors discovered precious comic books, manga, toys, and other thrilling memorabilia.

 

The Saturday Masquerade was also a raving success with some of the best cosplay in town. Costumed attendees unleashed their inner superheroes at the magnificent amateur costume competition with numerous participants showcasing their jaw-dropping costumes.

 

Visitors had the perilous privilege to take their pictures with the fearsome 501st Legion’s Renegade Squad and Vhetin’Ade Clan (Mandalorians), a Star Wars costume club featuring the galaxy’s most infamous foes, as well as the cosplay group Winnipeg Ghostbusters. Other Winnipeg Comiccon entertainment features included numerous panels throughout the weekend such as the Reel Debaters “What if the Avengers ran a summer camp”, a screening of “Cybernetic Showdown”, and “Wear and tear: The clothing of Vikings and the weapons that slice them”.

Winnipeg Comiccon is already looking ahead to a glorious 2022 event for the ages. The official dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
