Biography

Hugh Rookwood is a freelance artist and owner of an illustration and design studio Chozen Studios. For over 20 years he has incorporated his love of comics and comic art into his profession and developed an extensive portfolio.

Rookwood was an original founding member of Draxhall Jump Studios created by Artist/CEO Ken Lashley of Marvel Comics fame, which gave him the opportunity to do work for companies such as Hasbro, Mattel, Image Comics, and Darkhorse.

Rookwood is the creator of the self-published comic series Apocalypse 4 with writer Corrado Rizza. Additional published work includes the four-part mini-series Paper, Rock, Scissors Wars N' Stuff (Zelpha Comics) with writer Lue Nuwame, Flip (Markosia Publishing), Dominion Jack, with writer Jack Briglio, which was serialized in the Shuster-nominated series True Patriot Presents (Chapter House Publishing) on Comixology.
He has also worked on several variant cover exclusives, like Department of Truth (Image Comics), Vampironica (Archie Horror), Dead Day, Chicken Devil (Aftershock Comics) The Cimmerian Red Nails (Ablaze), Rick and Morty, Rick’s New Hat (Oni Press), Swamp Dogs: House of Crows (Scout Comics) Vampirella (Dynamite), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(IDW) and JEFF BURTONS "The Adventure of Auroraman" with Big Country Comics.

Rookwood has also worked on children's books. He worked with writer Kirk Jones on Tiesha in the Land of Faraway,Kyrel's Wugga Wheels and Kyrel Rode Dragons (Kosmic Publishing). He also collaborated with Ayesha Clough on a children’s book about Canada’s legendary Black cowboy John Ware and won two awards in one week. Howdy, I’m John Ware (Red Barn Books) took home the Heritage Calgary Storytelling Award on Sept. 15, 2021, and, two days later, captured the Alberta Book Publishing Awards' title of ‘Children’s Book of the Year.' They followed that up in 2022 with Howdy, I’m Flores LaDue: The Real-Life Story of Canada's Rodeo Queen.
