(Winnipeg, October 27, 2024) This past weekend, Winnipeg Comiccon welcomed over 35,000 attendees to the RBC Convention Centre; the highest attendance we’ve had of the event to date! Fans of all ages basked in a world of superheroes, horror, video games, anime, science fiction, and fantasy while gathering to find unique collectibles, meet incredible celebrities, and enjoy an out-of-this-world experience with fellow pop culture fans.
2024 Programming Highlights
Fans were lined up all weekend to meet their favourite pop culture icons including Alexander Ludwig (Vikings, Heels), Elijah Wood and Billy Boyd (Lord of the Rings), James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Runaways), The Trailer Park Boys, wrestling superstars Rob Van Dam & Trish Stratus, and scream queen Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street)
From the universe of Star Wars, Denis Lawson (original Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Bleak House, New Tricks), Diana Lee Inosanto (Ahsoka, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, Rent, stunt performer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Alan Tudyk (Firefly, Serenity, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Resident Alien).
We also welcomed Chad Coleman (The Walking Dead, The Wire, The Orville) and Colton Haynes (Teen Wolf, Arrow), as well as fan favourite Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles).
The range of voice actors who joined us was our biggest group yet including Charlet Chung (Overwatch, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Carmen Sandiego), Maggie Robertson (Resident Evil Village (2021), Baldur’s Gate 3, Back 4 Blood: River Of Blood Expansion 3), a virtual appearance from Veronica Taylor (Pokémon, Slayers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Charles Martinet (the original voice of Mario and many others, Luci Christian (One Piece, My Hero Academia), and the one-and-only Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid).
Artist Alley was overflowing with talent from Mark Brooks (Avengers, Secret Empire, Han Solo), Scott Henderson (Marvel Voices: Pride, The Reckoner Rises, A Blanket of Butterflies), Michael Golden (The Walking Dead, Deadpool, Daredevil), Renee Witterstaeter (The Sensational She-Hulk, Thanos Quest, Jason Vs. Leatherface), Brianna June (Archie Comics), Hugh Rookwood (Howdy, I’m John Ware, Apocalypse 4, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Sam Noir (Monstrosity, Steampunk Originals, Holmes Vs. Moriarty), and Sami Francis (Archie Comics).
As always, Saturday’s Masquerade was packed with some of the best cosplay of the year. Attendees unleashed their inner superheroes, movie/TV characters, and video game favourites at the magnificent amateur costume competition with participants showcasing their jaw-dropping costumes.
Visitors also enjoyed some fantastic activities with Underworld LARP Winnipeg, Winnipeg Ghostbusters (and their gigantic 25-foot Stay-Puft marshmallow man), collecting donations for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, Peg City Power Rangers, and Costuming Clubs of Winnipeg (501st Legion’s Renegade Squad, Dark Empire, Mando Mercs, Rebel Legion, Droid Builders, and Mandalorian Protectors), in support of Make-a-Wish Manitoba. Other activities included Cosplay Meet-ups, Tabletop Gaming (Game-itoba), Manitoba eSports, a performance from Incantatem, over 100,000 sq. ft. of shopping, dozens of panels, and still MUCH more!
